I am building a shed (with a class 1) living part. Move in. Then build the passive house (straw bale double glazed, etc. Both on acreage zoned rural.
The aim is to go off-grid eventually; using the shed roof for 10kW+ in PV panels (batteries I have to think about it).
The house will make use of hydronic heating. The living room has a combustion oven, planned with water back. The idea exists to put evacuated tubes for solar hot water and heating on the roof.
I am wondering, whether anyone has done a similar thing. What systems have you used?
I am thinking of a storage tank, with a heat exchanger for the tubes, and the water back... So a tank with the ability to connect 2 to 3 heat exchangers. Water storage can be expanded with another 500l tank in winter to have enough hot water for the hydronics over night. I may use a heat pump for extra energy into the tanks.
Pros and Cons for this configuration?
Passive house or not, Qld or not; the hydronics is a must -- we are feeling cold under 20 deg C
