OK I'll bite
They are assembled in Australia from imported high quality components.
They are expensive.
They have micro inverters built in so they are not interchangeable with other designs, but systems can be simply expanded. More parts means more things to go wrong, however.
I would be fairly confident they are above average quality. They are marketed for a Rolls Royce or Bang & Olufsen customer, who is prepared to pay a premium to believe they are buying a superior product. Whether the price premium is worth it or not is an individual value judgement.
That said, the only Tindo system near me with some panels facing east and some north, out performs my QSC / SMA system facing north. http://pvoutput.org/list.jsp?id=16976&sid=14877
I agree Tindo price is high at $3+/W when everything else in the local market is $1-$2/W installed.
I dont agree Tindo has more things to go wrong, quite the opposite.
You should appreciate that on-board inverters are designed to start producing AC output at much lower light levels than central-inverters designs achieve for the same roof space.
Over the life-of-system Tindo MIGHT balance out the initial price premium, probably not?. Tindo panels cannot be replaced as cheaply as conventional commodity DC panels. So yes they are a premium solution and will have a more niche market with unique needs and values.
Just thought i would add, for anyone following this post that the Tindo Karra is also available as a standard DC system with a choice of Delta or SMA inverter.
I got a quote for a 5 kW from the website and worked out to about $2/W for SMA, slightly less for the Delta
