We are building a new house which is off grid and has a stand alone solar power system with batteries. In summer I suspect we will be generating more power than we use at times and was wondering what to do with the spare power once the batteries were full. One idea I have had was to divert the spare power to a pool filter pump (my idea is that when it is really sunny the pool needs more filtering that when it is overcast). My problem is I don’t know how to do this as somehow the battery charge controller needs to talk to a switch on the pool filter and say “hey there is spare power” start the pump and then stop the pump once the spare power has gone, is there any off the shelf system designed to do something like this or do I need to get someone who knows what they are doing to design and install something purpose built which sounds expensive.
Any other ideas with what to do with spare solar power?
