Hi, I'm looking for a device to charge AA and AAA batteries. (NiMH) I'd welcome suggestions. Could be mains powered or solar. I think some do both.
Many thanks

I bought a unit from Jaycar that is powered from 12V, and came with both a 12V auxilliary power cable and a 240V to 12V switchmode plugpack. Each cell is charged independently. It has a switch for NiCd or NiMH, which I presume alters the charge current. It turns off using delta voltage sensing, but isn't always good at this - the batteries get quite hot before charging finishes. A better system is to have a temperature sensor on each cell and to switch off charging when the cell reaches about 45C.

Woolworths battery section have some 12V AA/AAA rechargers. Also in Officeworks an 8 cell unit with batteries for about $23.

Bought one on ebay for so little that I forgot how much it cost.
The led charger light is so bright you could use it as a nitelight while you are charging.Posted Thursday 22 Nov 2012 @ 3:58:10 am from IP # -
From 12 volt you can charge AA AAA D batteries with a 5 watt Ceramics resister and a battery container + plug. You will need a multi meter so you can find the right resister size. I charge my batteries at 10% of there full charge. The old Dick Smith catalog had a diagram in the back that was a good guide.
