Are window films that are designed to reflect direct solar radiation also able to reflect some or all of heat radiated from objects? In particular, I'd like to know if window films would help to minimise heat radiating from a colourbond verandah roof?

if it reflects infra red, why not. Any glass does, stay in front od it and photograph your image with an IR camera

some films are designed to reflect in the visible spectrum so might not work with the re radiated heat from the underside of a metal roof.
A Low E coating would probably work.Best option might be to get some foil or other insulation on the underside of the verandah roof.

have to find some supplier webpages, if they give you the light spectrum.
Light coloured roofw ould have beentoo easy? Is it about refletion or the re-emission from the underside?Posted Wednesday 18 Oct 2017 @ 9:17:45 am from IP # -
The window is underneath the colourbond verandah roof so I'm talking about re-emission from the underside. The verandah faces north which is very nice in winter but it gets very hot in summer. I do plan to put reflective insulation under it but in the mean time I was having some other windows tinted (east/west facing) and I wondered whether tinting the north facing window(s) under the verandah roof (with a different but still a low E film that lets more visible light in and doesn't ruin the view) would help to stem the flow of this radiated heat into the house in summer. The roof is quite a dark colour (red) so yes a lighter colour would help too.

I believe there are films that selectively reflect reradiated infra-red with little effect on visible light. Low-E glass certainly can.

Shade cloth over the top of the veranda in summer may help
