Hi there
In north east vic and have a subfloor built of steel. I have foilboarde in between joists and silver tape the edges and joins. Unfortunately I couldn't run full sheets as the floor is too low. Should I put batts on top of foil board in the cavity? And what is the best way to thermally break the steel and floor? If I screwed timber strips to the top of the joists would that work? The joists are 150 by 59.

Wood is a poor conductor of heat. I doubt there will be a temperature difference on the surface face between where the wood touches the metal below and where it does not. You also talk about putting a strip of wood between beam and flooring, if there is an air gap already it is thermally broken by the air gap.
Is this already built and you are retro fitting or still to be built?
