Hi all,
I've been researching and quoted to have window film installed by enerlogic to west facing bay windows (12 panes worth ranging from $175 to 275 p/sq m) from $2000 to $3000.
It's pretty much 60% windows in our open living/kitchen area.
It's a 1920s timber dwelling with wall insulation and about a month ago we installed R5 insulation in the flat roof (it previously had none - go figure).
When we moved in late last year and during the summer on a 25 degree day it would get close to 30 degrees. Yes, it would get hotter inside than out or similar.
There is little direct sunlight other apart from an hours worth in the late afternoon that managed to sneak through the 3 metres west facing pagola.
So, so this tidal wave of radiant heat is really exacerbated by the metal roofed pagola, the concrete that extends and surrounds the home and a double garage jammed right up against the house.
So, we're planning to cool down the external environment by planting a garden in place of the concrete,& reducing the size of the garage, and potentially external blinds.
My question to you all, is Window film as effective as double glazing?
I would interested here from anyone who has taken the window film and what difference has it made? Is it what it's cracked up to be?
Enerlogic claim there films insulate like double glazing and when placed on double glazing its like triple glazing.http://www.enerlogicfilms.com.au/enerlogic-70.php
Appreciate amy insights and experiences you might have.
