I have been very surprised that the government has taken so long to appear, after all the death of local production was flagged years ago.

so what, Euro 6 is coming anyway. And Australian manufacturers were uneble to even implement Euro 5, but the govt insisted in buying Australian cars, so they end up with Euro 4. But now its easy to do, cars are made elsewhere, we just pick cherries.
If there are no emissions checks, after a few years the emission control system degrades, so all this is pointless in the longrun.
And seems lots of rednecks don't care about fuel consumption anyway.Posted Wednesday 21 Dec 2016 @ 7:59:12 pm from IP # -
I have hired a few Euro 6 compliant trucks in the last few years. I was taking stuff up for a school musical camp and the bus drivers were very interested in the tuck. They liked the idea of driving cleaner machines, as they drive better as well. The current Citroen range in Australia is Euro 6 compliant and has been for a few years, so it has been happening if you know where to look.
Way too late but welcome anyway

implementation of next level Euro standard for trucks is always a few years earlier than for cars. Trucks 2012, cars 2014. Now we have what year? If Australia was in the, um, drivers seat on that, why would it be called Euro?

Average age of all vehicles registered in Australia was 10.1 years, unchanged from 2015.
see if I can find anything on didtribution of engine sizes, but average age is some indication of emission standards....there is a link to an excel table, still 2.1% cars on leaded and 80 on petrol. Gives an indication on emphasys on fuel consumption.

there you go, average engine size 2.4 l, avg fuel consumption 11.5L/100km
