I'm building a house on acerage. The electricity is off grid and it and the water will come from the shed 170m away. My plan is to have a good sized pressure system for the large garden and an 'on demand pump' (Onga JSP120) to do the house. Both pumps will use rural poly B 1½ pipe, which is already in the ground, to the house.
My question is that with the Onga pump at the shed, how pronounced will be the lag between turning on the tap in the house and getting the water at pressure be?
Pump lag

Well, assuming that you don't drain the pipe in between uses and that water remains incompressible and that the volume of the connecting pipe doesn't change, I wouldn't expect too much lag. It might take the pump a moment to overcome the inertia of the water in the pipe but it wouldn't be comparable to waiting for hot water from a remote tank.
To be transparent, I have no direct experience with long runs off a pump but I can't see why it would be a problem?

It will be immediate because the system will be pressurised. Make sure that you have a check valve.

Thanks guys. I was hoping this would be the case and , yes Diver, from past experience, I know the value of the check valve.

Install a pressure vessel at the house, zero lag.

Yes, Johnno, that is an option, but easy to do later if I think I will need it. I will take the 'suck it and see' option at this stage.
