How cool our my winters?
I live in a Bayside suburb of Melbourne. We can get temps down to 3 or 4 C. But yes, I have seen our Daikin US7 go in to defrost mode momentarily. I have even run outside and tried to see if there is ice build up on the exchanger, but I have not been quick enough. It is a combination of low-ish temps and high humidity that cause heat pumps to ice up. At minus 10 C and low humidity, one might sail through without any need for defrost. Certainly I have seen heat pumps operating satisfactorily under such conditions near the snowfields of New South Wales (Jindabyne caravan park).
