   This has been raised before, back in 2013, but I can't find a clear experience. Hebel documentation is not clear either.

   Has anyone poured a concrete screed as final, exposed, layer over Hebel Powerfloor (those are the DIY aerated panels that sit on joists)? If so, how thick? -- Did it crack over time??

   Alternatively, the Hebel Powerfloor Plus would appear to be stable enough for an exposed concrete top-layer. Anyone experience with that? -- Relative costing??

   It appears that our site/budget is not suited for an earth-coupled concrete slab. We like the appearance and feel (and properties) hence are looking at Hebel as floating alternative.

   zeemeeuw,

   The polished concrete specialists would have knowledge of other clients pouring a screed over Hebel panel flooring. If not then perhaps it is not the best solution. There would probably be water proofing and control joint issues to consider as well.

   Alternatively you could pour a suspended concrete slab over steel decking and then grind it. What is the problem with your site that prevents a more conventional slab to be poured?

   Why? A Hebel floor is generally used as an alternative to a suspended concrete floor. So if you want a concrete finish then just have the latter. At my son's house we laid a Hebel floor. It was covered with a timber floating floor. Also a good base for tiles.

   It was my understanding the OP wished to have "a concrete screed as a final exposed layer" rather than a timber floor, or a floor with visible Hebel joints etc.

   I assume you are proposing hebel for the subfloor primarily for its insulation properties. I would urge you to contact hebel ,and send them your proposed drawigns showing size of floor and thickness of screed .They should know the likelihood of failure . It might work ..but then again ....

   I did a very quick search about polished concrete and epoxy floors in the Melbourne area and came up with this as a starting point:

   We are about to look at a polished concrete/epoxy flooring solution for an proposed extension (small-25 square metres) and are researching the best way to do this. There will be a heavily engineered concrete slab (P-class site with flood overlay).

   The original idea was to pave the concrete but we've decided against this for various reasons. So we will either look at a polished screed layer or maybe an epoxy finish. I should add we've had a decorative epoxy finish throughout the rest of the now 15 year old house.
