Can someone wise to energy consumption in housing tell me if its true that a 6star home would use 20kWhr a day in Canberra?

Can someone wise to energy consumption in housing tell me if its true that a 6star home would use 20kWhr a day in Canberra? It could, doesn't mean it does however power consumption is based on what is using power in the house, it's not purely confined to heating and cooling, ie if the house has and uses an electric dryer, aircon's (plural) a few big screen TV's, sound systems, all sort of other house appliances, has a comprehensive LAN (network) etc that house could easily use 20kWh and likely more. If there was a house next door that was the same size same insulation, etc, it could use less than 5kWh per day simply because it uses none of those devices.
Other factors such as the size of the house has an impact, the bigger the house in "sqm" the more likely that there will be a higher electricity usage, or the more appliances the more power generally and so on it goes.
20kWh's per day (24 hours) is roughly the national average for household electricity usage.

IN relation to thermal comfort alone, the HERS star rating system rates a house on the size it is, so a 1000 m2 house which is 6 stars will require more energy to maintain comfort levels than a 100 m2 house.
That is the main weaknesses of the HERS scheme as it stands now. That is my current understanding .... Can anyone confirm this?

Yes the NatHERS rating is based on kW hrs per m2 so the bigger 6 star house will use proportionally more energy
The rating is also different depending on the climate zone of the house, (see http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2015/08/what-does-the-energy-rating-mean

but for the rating, don't you have to put in, that the rooms are used for. I.e. if you have a 500m2 grage, it may not be heated/cooled? Then again, if someone seems to need a 1000m2 house for 3 people, why not.

The software only looks at rooms that are heated or cooled so garages won't be included in the calculations unless you are planning to spend a lot of time in the garage.
