I am dealing with an unusual situation for a friend. Had a 1.5kW PV system installed a year ago, along with Landis and Gyr E350 meter. As usual here in WA he was put on smart power (TOU tariff with 4 time periods, off pk, shldr, peak, weekend (rates A,B,C,D).
Since then he has bragged to me how his consumption is only 1 unit per day (imported energy) after I bagged him for having a "galaxy" of 50W halogens. I can't understand how he can only import 1 unit per day when he has a normal fridge, 12 x 50W halogens in lounge area, PC, TV etc, even though he has gas HWS and only 2 adults in the house.
I finally got one of his bills and it shows for 60days, 60 units exported and 71 units imported.
The PV system should have been generating about 6 units per day and from its display its working OK.
If they are both out at work all day, how could the house be using 5 units during daylight hours (leaving only 1 for export), and then only using 1 unit per day as imported when they come home in the evening ?
I checked the meter and it only shows 1 set of energy readings, ie total kWh then for periods A,B,C,D. Over 2 days these values did not change. unlike my smart meter, there does not appear to be separate meter displays for import and export.
Its as if the meter is accumulating his daily export and then subtracting from this the evening/night import and showing the nett position. But while his net bill is low, I think he's being ripped off because he should be getting 47c for the exported energy and paying less for imported.
His brother has an identical system and similar usage and shows what you would expect – 262 units exported, 233 units imported, so daily import 4 units(evening/night), daily export 4 units (while at work), daily direct use from PV 2 units. His bill is a credit of $50 vs a debit of $8 for my friend. Not sure what the brothers meter is but he's not on smart power.
Is the L&G meter somehow programmed or wired up incorrectly ?
