Hi all,

Sorry for starting a new topic, but the time has arrived for me to order down lights for my new house.

Since the last time I did some research into this (9 months ago I brought some gu10 bulbs from China and Aus and tested them in spot lights - was OK but not good enough) it looks like I should be happy with these all in one down light fixtures being sold on ebay in Australia.

Does anyone here have any experience in using them or have any tips for when I test some out?

Both are cool white fixtures - is this what you are after, a cold white tube fluroscent light sort of colour? Good for the kitchen, not so good for living areas

I'd pick the first one over the second one, not just because it's more expensive and brighter, the beam angle, 100 degrees is nice and wide and will seem brighter as there will be more direct light in the room, not reflected. Keep in mind this is highly subjective, some people prefer not to be able to see the light and have closely spaced narrow beam lights.

I went ahead and bought 3 of the edison lights to test.

When I get them I'll post the results. I have a light meter (although I found that hard to use...) and an infra red gun (somewhere ... I've misplaced it) and a power meter.

Lol.

They will almost certainly be measuring some kind of chip lumen so i would guess that 1200 lumens isnt coming out of the fixture, none the less for $50 its probably not that terrible the drivers are the things to watch on those ebay 'specials'

If using power points in the roof make sure they are secured.

Or any other recommendations that is cheaper then the ~$100 for Osrams Luxpoint Mini and Brightgreens D900?

I am after downlights that are close to downlights replacement in lumens, colour and angle since my wife is very light sensitive and I don't want to make any more holes in ceiling. I am happy to chuck out the current old halogen transformers to save the ~10W waste on transforming and I would like to change the light switches over from on-off to dimmers in the living room (2 lights per 3 switches, 6 in total). I currently have standard adjustable downlight holes, don't mind too much if I had to cut them bigger but would prefer if they were better sealed and they don't have to be adjustable (angle). Also absolute no-no with TV interference since my wife must have lights on when watching TV.

Or is the Brightgreen and Osram worth the extra $$?

Also, anyone who has experience with the 6W Starlux on the backpage of latest Renew for $30?
Says 'comparable light to 50W halogen' but no Lumens given so a bit suspicious?

Hi

I got 2 of the 12*1 watts in cool and warm white. My wife didn't like the large diameter of them. I'm going to use one in my entrance as it's 6m tall. They are too bright / big for inside. The warm white one was too yellow for me.

Got a warm white 7*3. It wasn;t working, but one of the 12*1 drivers worked it at half power. Got a replacement but they only sent the driver. I wired it up, but still not working. Noticed on the driver that the output is swapped over compared to the 12*1. So I turned that over and it works now. The orginal also works - they wired it wrong. It is also insanely bright. I'll be using them with dimmers as without they are too bright for indoors even though my ceilings are over 3m. The warm light seems to be nice - not too yellow or blue. I need to test it at location.

Purchased 2 7*1 warm and cool. I'm going to use them in a hallway. Light is a bit less than a halogen but still bright. Not sure if going to use warm or cool.

So going to put in a order in for the rest of the lights, 30 or so once I decide exactly warm /cool.

Hi Nicklas, in ref to your question about the Dealextreme12W LED Ceiling Lamp/Down Lights, I purchased a 15W LED Office Light which looks very similar from http://www.ledlightingaustralia.net.au and I am extremely pleased with it in both performance and looks. I am however using it in my home office. I chose “cool white” which suits the colour (none) scheme of the room. Can't imagine using it elsewhere in our house.

I have used their 5W LED (Cree) downlights in general parts of our house and 9W LEDs in our kitchen, (all cool white GU10s).

Over an island kitchen bench I used 2 of their 14W (Dimmable) Complete LED Gimble units and this has indeed finally satisfied “she who has complained” for the last 5 years about insufficient light there.

Good luck with your search, it’s difficult I know. btw, so far I have found the supplier to be very prompt and reliable.
