Hi,
We're adding a second storey to our house in Sydney. We're not far from the ocean, so climate is temperate, but I want good thermal comfort without aircon.
Upstairs we'll have brick veneer (I know, not ideal) on our southern exposure and weatherboard cladding on the north.
At this stage, I'm looking at R2.0 rockwool bulk insulation --- both for its acoustic and thermal insulation properties. But I'm also thinking about using foil-backed insulation board in addition to the bulk insulation for extra coverage of the outer surface of the timber wall frame and for extra thermal comfort.
Used alone, the board would have an R of 1.9 in the brick veneer walls and R1.5 in the weatherboard clad walls.
(I'm looking at R-Max or Foilboard as brands for the insulation brands.)
Does this seem a sensible way to go? Any tips, hints, pitfalls to look out for?
thanks, B
