I am maybe off topic on this forum but the subject is too important for me to ignore.
All this ATA is about innovative thinking and if we can save one life here, it was worth it. If we could suggest, present innovative ideas that can save property and lives in incoming bush fire season.
My idea Nr 1
There was problem with alarming all people in endangered area in time. Radio could be off, cell phone tower knock off.
We can get small airplane, attach custom build high frequency speaker/beeper at the bottom that propagate thru conical tube shape. Sound generated will have directional properties. Now this plane can fly over endeared area sending this signal. At preprogrammed fly high and path airplane can scan fast any area delivering targeted alarm without disturbing other location. This could be used at any unprepared area, warning from fire, tsunami, sharks anything. Don't need ground base infrastructure which can be deactivated by fire anyway. Anyway this is not instead off ... but on top of all existing security measures. All needed here is plane or helicopter, sound emitter (1 KHz), and some training.

I think thats a good idea greenozi. The plane would certainly provide some form of alarm, but would a listener know how to respond? With sharks its pretty easy, when you hear the siren - get out of the water. Is the right course of action as obvious for people being alerted to a bushfire? How could you integrate more information? Fly the plane in the best direction of escape?

Not really. The fire plan and evacuation plan, drill is prepared early. Announce by radio is made early what to do and what this alarm means for you. Alarm mean: YOU ARE IN IMMINENT DANGER NOW! ACT NOW! That is why the sound is directional with maximum scanning precise region. Plain siren from the plane I can here possibly here in Malvern and this is not information as such for me. More. Siren can suggest that danger is still far away, since with this you know that MESSAGE was for you. Anyway devices already exist and used by military and police as directional energy weapon. But we don't want to kill anybody, we want save life.
