I am not aware of the legal aspect of integrating existing Solar PV wind small wind turbine to boost electricity output.
For me it make perfect sense if we can add to existing 1-2kw Solar PV grid connected system (where all the cost 15.000-$30.000 are already borne and counted) small wind generator 500-2kW, for reasonably moderate expense of 1.000-$3.500 to double the electricity output.
My idea here: Shouldn't grid connected inverter have an extra input for additional Green Energy sources (wind, hydro, compost,...), obviously assuming the inverter have this extra capacity to handle extra power?
What do you think?

I think some inverters do have this functionality. I think they cost a little more but do give you the option of multiple sources. If you have access to two renewable power sources then I agree that it seems to offer the opportunity for synergies and savings over having two separate systems. Residential scale wind really seems to have mixed success in a suburban environment though - make sure you have an adequate supply of wind in your location to make the expense worthwhile.

The problem is not so much wind supply but council regulations.
I should check with my council which wind mill they accept. Maybe it is easier to get permission for wind mills with vertical axes as they turn more slowly and are no danger to birds.
The other issue is the feed-in tariff in NSW. If I remember correctly it was announced that wind energy might be incorporated at a later date.

At this stage there's no regulations permitting wind energy to receive a feed in tariff in NSW. I asked Energy Matters about this. Here is their reply:

"Thank you for contacting Energy Matters regarding a 1kW grid connected wind turbine.
The price to supply and install a 1kW Whisper 200 turbine to the grid is around $15k. No rebates or feed in tariffs are available for grid connected wind turbines. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate in contacting us by replying to this email, calling us on 1300 727 151 or visiting our web site at <http://www.energymatters.com.au>www.energymatters.com.au."

That's the best info I have at this stage.

I don't see why anyone cares about the source of the power, so long as it is renewable. Surely individual power companies would be able to buy your power from you.

Hi guys, I have done a lot of work on this. I have two 300W turbines on my roof and grid connected them for testing (Can't leave them on as they do not have Australian Standard approval. Waiting on this...) I also have a 1.5Kw solar system grid connected. I have involved North Sydney Council on this (wind) project and they take the stance that "If we get no complaints then we have no problem" In fact all I get is compliments from the neighbours..
The power company don't care/know where the feed in power comes from.

FYI I get an average of .8 kWh's on quiet days for both turbines (10-15 KM/H wind) and 2-3 times that on windy days (10-25 KM/H)
On very windy days the turbines have peaked at 500W each.

The magic is they run 24x7 as opposed to 6-8 hours a day and it is usually windy when it is not sunny...

I know this is an old thread but I am interested in how Altern8 is going with this. How are the results over a longer term?

What sort of turbines and inverter are you using?
