Recently, I went through the investigative process of Solar Cell systems. In cold/cloudy Tassie, I didn't think it would be all that advantageous, as we had natural gas available, and the value of the power credits had been reduced.
As I understand it, reducing power credits is to cover the expense of upgrading power infrastructure to cope with random Solar Panel installations. Fair enough.
Then I thought, why cant I buy solar panels, and have them installed in a cheap, sunny, connection friendly location, and get full price for the power ?
If a small block of land, near a sub-station, somewhere sunny could make money for me - perhaps in conjunction with other interested investors - why would I bother with a domestic installation in a problematic climate ?
I imagine that there would be costs for maintenance and supervision, insurance etc - but these should be more than covered for the extra income and better location.
Sounds logical, but what are the potential problems ?
As far as I know, there is only 1 community based project under consideration that seems I can find -
Does anyone else think this is a good idea, and are there any other projects being considered anywhere in Australia ?
