Hi guys,
I have an upcoming renovation planned on my house which I think was built in the 40's/50's. The foundations are large bluestone pitchers that has a bearing plate sitting on top (bearing plate is very crook with rot and I'm currently chatting with restumping mobs to have it replaced). The floor joists sit on this bearing plate and then the walls sit on the joists.
Anyway.....Once this bearing plate is fixed I plan on pulling up approx. half the old timber floor (it's had a good life and is beyond salvageable) and replace with nice new solid timber floor (thinking Spotted Gum).
So I thought that after I pulled up the floor it would be a good chance to pop in some insulation. I have been looking at Bradford's 'Optimo' insulation. These are batts that fit snuggly inside the floor joists. Is having an air gap essential in this situation???? Considering that my floor joists are 90mm...if I use the 70mm batts I could maintain a 20mm air gap between the tops of the batts and the underside of the floor. The other thickness batts available are 90mm which would rest hard up against the floor.
Could anyone recommend another product other than a batt for this?
Any advice or recommendations greatly appreciated.
Dale
